While the first IOLs ever developed allowed for only fixed-focus vision, modern products can provide excellent vision at all distances, often eliminating the need for reading glasses. Full-Focus® IOLs
Two brands in particular, ReStor® and TECNIS®, offer excellent multifocal vision, which means they can achieve clearer eyesight at near, far, and intermediate distances. Though both IOLs can achieve similar results, there are subtle differences that will make one or the other option more appropriate for an individual’s needs. Dr. Dell and Dr. Varu will determine which method is best for you during your initial complimentary consultation.
Toric IOLs for Astigmatism
If you have astigmatism, a condition that occurs when your eye is more oval-shaped than round, a different kind of IOL may be used. Toric makes three types of IOLs for patients with this concern, which allows Dr. Dell and Dr. Varu to customize your treatment to best suit your eye care needs.
Mixing IOLs
In some cases of cataract surgery on both eyes, Dr. Dell and Dr. Varu may recommend using a combination of IOLs. Crystalens® is an accommodating IOL that can be used in one eye while a multifocal lens (ReStor® or TECNIS®, for instance) can be used in the other. As a result, one eye will have good far and intermediate vision, and the other eye will have good far and near vision. Dr. Dell and Dr. Varu will discuss this possibility with you if he feels this approach can optimize your outcome.
